Malila Serial Plot Issues: What To Do?

I have an apology to make here to the readers of my Malila story.

You see, the next chapter I have ready starts with a quick transition from the Elf Village to the Mountains. The reason being that the next bit of conflict on my outline happens there. But now that I reread it, I see that I skipped the whole journey to the Mountains (which takes a couple days). So now it feels choppy to me.

This is, of course, the trouble with sharing the first draft while writing. There’s always the potential to crash and burn, even if you outlined the story first. Because even then, your plotting could be faulty. Or the story changed while you were writing, and now the outlined ending no longer fits.

Now, I did some light planning for this before NaNo. That is I laid out the plot conflict for each scene I wanted to write. But now I’m seeing I don’t know my characters as well as I’d like. Hence I am seeing two problems as I try to write this for NaNo. One, most of the extra characters (the toys, the Snozzle, even Shagfry) don’t contribute anything to the plot. My other problem is that the action so far is pretty episodic. Why does it matter if they have cookies with the Village Master anyway? What’s the point?

So what does all this mean? It means I’m late posting the chapter because I paused to do some of the plot work I should have done beforehand. I asked Sophie and Ami some serious questions about their backgrounds and desires. And I found out some important things.

Only now, I’m not sure what to do next.

This means that I now know what changes need to happen in the previous chapters. So do I go back and fix them first? Or do I write up a description of the changes for my readers? Then I would continue writing the new chapters as if the old chapters already matched them.

I’m seriously stuck on this one. For myself, I’d be much happier going back and rewriting first. But I don’t know what you guys would prefer. If you’ve been following along, would you rather see the updated chapters first? Or would you even bother going back to reread?

Here’s my decision then. I will it up too you. Hit like if you’d rather I continue posting chapters and edit after its done. Leave a comment if you would reread the edited chapters (I’ll post links to them as I finish them).

Also, let me know if you’d enjoy seeing some of the plotting bits! In particular, I thought it might be fun to share some of the character profiles/interviews.

Let me know what you think!
